As part of our team, you will...

  • put your algorithm and math skills to work in solving the hardest problems in learning and inference in hierarchical models.
  • make decisions about how to translate complex ideas to working solutions while keeping a keen eye for computation/accuracy/memory tradeoffs.
  • design controlled experiments to show particular performance aspects of the systems and large scale experiments to show statistical robustness.

Desired skills and experience

  • Preferred PhD or Masters in CS/EE or a related discipline or Masters in CS/EE with relevant research experience. We also consider exceptional applicants with other backgrounds, particularly those with publication records in conferences, journals, github, or other venues.
  • Experience building hierarchical vision systems and publishing relevant papers in CVPR/NIPS/ICML is a big plus.
  • Extensive programming skills, ideally in Python and C, and a track record of translating ideas into prototypes quickly.
  • Solid fundamentals in linear algebra, probability theory, signal processing, and optimization.
  • Experience developing and testing ideas in a large scale setting.
  • Knowledge of biologically inspired models of vision.
  • Experience with belief propagation and approximation methods.
  • Interest in neuroscience a plus.

About this position

Our goal is to build a system that achieves human-level intelligence in the domains of vision, language and motor control. We are currently focused on visual perception problems such as recognition, segmentation and scene parsing. We are not building neural networks. You can learn more about our strategy here.

As a research engineer at Vicarious you will quickly come up to speed on recent advancements in machine learning, image processing and computer vision. You will apply this knowledge to improve the computational performance and accuracy of learning and inference algorithms used for vision tasks in a large variety of training environments. Working with other members of the team you will be driving a dense Python and C++ codebase that is pushing the state-of-the-art in AI forward.

IT Manager / System Administrator

As part of our team, you will...

  • Build and maintain corporate infrastructure (authentication, email, VPN, etc).
  • Manage vendor relationships and order hardware.
  • Provision new equipment (laptops, desktops), including performing maintenance and upgrades of existing hardware.
  • Onboard and offboard employees as needed.
  • Deal with (and automate where possible) user requests that come through the helpdesk.
  • Manage shared linux desktops (typically attached to a robot).
  • Implement rolling upgrade program (software and hardware).
  • Oversee security audits of corporate infrastructure as needed.

Desired skills and experience

  • Preferred BS in CS/MIS or a related discipline. We also consider exceptional applicants with other backgrounds.
  • In depth knowledge of Linux (as a desktop) and OSX.
  • Experience building out Directory and SSO services.

As a hands on IT Manager at Vicarious, you will be working to support the experiments, systems, and researchers that are bringing the state-of-the-art in AI forward. This will involve many of the typical functions of an IT Manager at a growing company as well as domain specific challenges such as maintaining a shared lab of linux machines connected to physical robots. As a member of Vicarious you will work with all teams, but in particular you will work alongside the Engineering team to ensure a smooth experience for researchers as they transition between their personal machines, cluster machines, and shared labs.

Graphics Developer

As part of our team, you will...

  • Build virtual environments on which to train our agents.
  • Assess and import public 3D model datasets for internal use.
  • Build infrastructure in which graphical and physical data can be systematically generated and visualized.
  • Work closely with researchers and engineers to design training data for vision tasks and robotics tasks.
  • In context of graphics rendering for AI training, communicate possibilities and constraints to other researchers and engineers.
  • Design and explore effective methods for data augmentation.

Desired skills and experience

  • Excellent knowledge OpenGL and Python at least 3+ years of experience.
  • Strong knowledge of object-oriented design, design patterns, 3D Math, and data structures.
  • Familiar with debugging environment issues and system issues associated with OpenGL on Linux.

Office Manager

As part of our team, you will...

  • Greet visitors and makes sure they get to where they need to be.
  • Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of office areas and equipment and help ensure we are using our space effectively.
  • Maintain office supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, anticipate needed supplies, evaluate new office products, place and expedite orders for supplies, and verify receipt of supplies.
  • Manage relationships with vendors, service providers, and building management.
  • Assist with new employee onboarding by managing seating plan and work stations, supplies, welcoming new hires, assigning keys and security codes, etc.
